Celebrity Chef Special Event at Milwaukee Public Market
In conjunction with the 2008 national conference, Prevent Child Abuse America will present a Celebrity Chef Special Event to be held at the Milwaukee Public Market on May 19, 2008. This cooking demonstration featuring healthy family meals will be presented by Chef Wynnie Stein from the famed Moosewood Restaurant in Ithaca, New York. Chef Stein is a co-founder of the Moosewood collective, and has been a cookbook author and chef for more than 20 years. She has spent the last few years helping develop and market a line of Moosewood's organic soups and frozen entrees that are available nationwide.
The Moosewood philosophy emphasizes healthful natural foods cuisine, and the use of fresh, local ingredients. For more than thirty-three years Moosewood Restaurant has been acclaimed as a driving force in the world of creative vegetarian cooking. They've been named one of the thirteen most influential restaurants of the 20th Century by Bon Appetit magazine. The Moosewood Collective has also authored eleven internationally acclaimed cookbooks, their latest being Moosewood Restaurant Simple Suppers.
The connection between healthy food and child abuse prevention is found around the dinner table. Nutritious, delicious family dinners provide the backdrop for strengthening connections between parents and children, sharing news of the day and bonding around the dinner table. Studies show that children who eat dinner with their families regularly are less likely to get involved with drugs and alcohol, tend to get better grades, exhibit less stress and eat better than those who do not. With childhood obesity on the rise, healthy eating is more important than ever; home cooking allows greater control over ingredients and portion size as well as the chance to educate children about nutrition.
At this special event, guests will sample dishes created from Chef Stein's springtime menu and receive recipes to try at home. Moosewood cookbooks will be available for purchase and Chef Stein will happily provide autographs. A silent auction will be held featuring cuisine, travel and lifestyle items.
The ticket price of $45 includes the cooking demonstration, tastings, wine and cheese.
